Hello there, mysterious soul. What brings you over to this realm? Is it the words of wisdom? Or perhaps... the ladies? We have plenty of both, ho ho ho! (has not been verified) Ezenith. That's an interesting name. Where does it come from?
Hello Ishimaru. I'm certainly not here for the ladies - that would be preposterous! Insane even (Snagglepuss voice)........ Okay I may actually be here for the ladies. ;P
My name comes from a combination of the letter 'e' which represents electronic (similarly found in other words like email), and the word zenith. I'm basically calling myself the pinnacle of all things electronic - or so I would like to think. I'm not actually self centred at all; not in the slightest! Haha!
Didn't know what snagglepuss was until I came across you. Thank you, ezenith, for teaching me something new. And don't worry, we're all here for the ladies. The only problem is that none of us have actually found one yet. But with every new adventurer that ventures into this forgotten land, rises new hope... perhaps.. No, I shouldn't say that! I mustn't! But perhaps... that destiny lies with you.
Woah, didn't expect that the name would have had that much thought put into it. It's brilliant! I find that most human traits have their uses. Even narcissism.
So how are you related to electronics exactly? Do you study a similar subject by any chance? Or have studied in the past? Anything you'd like to share?
You have never heard of Snagglepuss‽ That is crazy; but I am glad that I could introduce you to such an awesome character.
As for my relation to electronics and the like: nothing in the form of formal education or whatnot. Hardware specific nothing major; I've just built a few pc's for my friends and family. And for the software side I am a hobbyist developer knowing few languages and only enough of each language to build very primitive applications. That, I believe, is the extent to which I have any relation to electronics.
That's cool. So I assume you understand the major components that comprise a personal computer. Did you delve deeper than that? Like the major components of the major components? Haha. What kind of languages do you know? What software have you written? I'm what you would call a "hobbyist developer" as well. I started off with making games. Or at least trying to make them. Then slowly moved to other areas. You should consider joining us.
That is correct. I am fairly familiar with most, if not all, of the major components that are required to build a working pc. I can not say that I know much about the component's components but what ever I do know about anything like that is vague and probably learned through osmosis.
As for languages I know: currently I'm dabbling in HTML5's canvas element with vanilla JS. I'm 'trying' to learn enough to build some sort of web game that is a little more extensive and in-depth than the Snake game I had written in the past with HTML5. Though, as I am terrible with most things that game developers need to know (like maths. Mainly maths. Almost elusively maths), it is proving difficult - but fun!
Apart from JS, I know a bit of PHP which I have recently used to create an app for my friends and I. It basically takes a list of all the beer available at our local The Beer Store and outputs a random one for us to try next. It's all prettied up and stuff so I suppose you could also add CSS to 'languages I know and use?'.
MSL (mIRC Scripting Language) is probably the language that got me started with programming. I have made a few dozen text based RPG's with it, as well as some channel bots for Twitch. It seems like only yesterday; but it wasn't (abrupt stop).
I've also written some things in Java, C++(for a friends homework), and C#(with Unity). I think that's about the extent of what I know. I haven't really tried any frameworks/libraries or anything like that, so~.
I would consider that but I can't say that I'd be of any use. Most of the things I've done or have mentioned here are just little, primitive applications that are very poorly written and almost mashed together. Nothing like this website, for instance.
Do you still noodle around with game development, or is most of your time spent on web stuff?
I'm not very familiar with the HTML5's canvas, but the other 2 programmers on less-real have been playing with it a hell of a lot. Made some kind of paint-like thing.
So your desire for applying programming is mainly for game development, right? Games sure are fun. All the fun to be had with them isn't just by playing them, but also by making them. I can't say I'm still involved in game development though. The last time I touched up on one of my older games was like half a year ago I believe. Now I'm mainly into web stuff and I love it. But I still have that desire hiding in the darkest corners of my heart, to one day finish at least one goddamn game.
I see you have a broad spectrum of knowledge in languages. I mean I'm sure you didn't become an expert in all of them, but just by picking up each and getting a little familiar is still useful to form a bigger picture. Most of the people that joined our team weren't professionals or anything. In fact the main qualities were that they liked the site, loved anime and wanted to learn. It could be a way for you to learn more programming as well, if you wanted to of course. Just putting it out there.
P.S. You'd be surprised how "almost mashed together" this site is xD
Hm, I wouldn't say I prefer game development or try to pursue it over everything else. When it comes to programming I love to try and do it all (which is probably why I don't get very far in any specific language or field, but no matter). I love it all. I find it so fascinating that I can type some seemingly random (to someone who doesn't know any programming languages) strings of text and create a moving ball on a screen, or a calculator! Those are small and almost insignificant programs in the grand scheme of things, but you can build off of them and make them into maybe a ball that moves and jumps around on a key stroke, or maybe that calculator!... well I'm not really sure how you could rework a calculator but I bet you can if you tried! I love it!
Anyways, enough of that tangent... I completely agree with your point about joining being a way for me to develop as a... developer :P and with that, if you will have me, I will certainly accept this opportunity. Just let me know how, and what's expected of me!
@P.S. Haha! I suppose you can't judge a book by its cover; or, in this case, a website by its pages @.@
Beautifully said. That's why I fell in love with programming too. That power to create something that didn't exist before just by pushing on this plastic thing on your table in all the right ways. Yooosh, you got me fired up! MUST. PROGRAM.
Well it would be great if you had skype. We're all on skype and we have our team chat there as well. But it's not exactly a requirement, it would be possible to do without that. But you'll be missing out.
P.S. Not sure I understood what you wanted to say by that. What was your judgement looking at the pages and what was your latter realization? xD
Sorry about the late reply, my schedule has been rather busy, out of the blue, for some reason.
Anyway, I just got skype. My username is 'ezenith.'. I didn't realize that they had a working version for linux!
Oh, and about the P.S., I just meant that the website runs beautifully, looks fantastic, and has an overall professionally done feel. So when you said that I'd be surprised at how almost mashed together this site is, I was quite surprised. :P
Well fun itself is highly subjective. My version of fun is certainly not going to be everyone else's. That said, you could consider this exchange my little bit of interaction for the day.
I do like that quote though.
