something is described cold when heat is absent from it (or when you have more heat than the object you're comparing). same goes for darkness. you call it 'dark' because there's little to no light present.
Well, guys. There is what you call a phenomenon where people could interpret the exact same ideas, and can say it's different in a way. it's called "Perception".
those two ideas are reasonably acceptable.
But heat is the movement of atoms, so what exactly do you mean by saying "the absence of heat"? The absolute zero? That's not what people call cold or hot. Otherwise in our daily life we would only get to use "hot", because atoms only stop moving at temperatures too low for normal people to put into use. So then there is always heat in atoms. All I'm saying is the line between hot and cold seems very arbitrary.
Sasuga Ishimaru-dono...
ah, gomen, what I meant to say was "less heat" instead of "no heat" because every particle, no matter how little heat energy they are exposed to, moves with a certain velocity. of course, with the exception of temperatures beyond the absolute zero.
by and all, I agree with you, since, it all depends on how hot or cold is your skin at the moment you feel something.
Yeah, it's all relative and the lines we draw for separating "opposites" seem to be relative too. Is there hot and cold outside of our bodies and our minds? Then again, is there anything outside of our minds. We may never know.
How can there be Hot without Cold ? Ups without Downs ? Victory without Defeat ? that is one of the contradictions of life, that there is no life without contradictions.
Why not? There doesn't seem to be anything that would prevent for something to exist without an opposite. Even the opposites you mentioned are just a way to look at certain things. You can say that something is hot, but you can also describe that same thing as less cold. In fact you could describe all possible heats with the a degree of cold. And vice versa.
Just because you can perceive it on different degrees,it does not mean that one element can exist without a oppost. At least on my limited mind i cant imagine how can be possible to a world without dualitys to exist. You cant just try to pretend cold dont exist, because without cold there would be no point of reference/comparison to know that "hot" exist.
What do you mean "pretend"? How do you know that it does exist? That's just another way to look at it. I understand that we need opposites, cause they allow us to recognize things like happiness and sadness. All I'm saying is that nothing is so linear, there is no obvious line separating the two, it is imaginary, put where it suits us best.
